Etiquette

As anyone who knows me will no doubt already be aware, I am a staunch believer in the rules of etiquette. I could hardly believe my luck when I came across a book in my local branch of 'Booksale', which was entitled 'The Polite Approach', retailing for a mere 25p. It is a guide to etiquette in the modern world, and I am pleased to include two illustrations from it on my web site.

Never comment on what you have seen

The first, with the caption 'Never comment on what you have seen' demonstrates that it is inappropriate to comment on other people's private lives, upon which one may accidentally intrude. The shockingly explicit picture of two people lying next to each other, in bed, both on their backs, shows just the sort of thing about which one should under no circumstances comment.

A social kiss

The second picture shows how it is acceptable to kiss in a social context (that is, a friend or acquaintance as opposed to lover). It appears that the correct form is to rub one's nose and mouth lightly against the recipient's cheek - or possibly make some kind of pecking motion, I'm not totally sure. Anyhow, this is indispensible advice as, before being made aware of this, I myself committed the grave faux pas of actually pursing my lips against cheeks socially.
